Computing

“The number one benefit of information technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do. It lets people be creative. It lets people be productive. It lets people learn things they didn’t think they could learn before, and so in a sense it is all about potential.”

Steve Ballmer

Our Intent:

The intention of Computing at Washwood Heath Academy Primary Phase is for all pupils to receive an enriched knowledge-based computer curriculum based on the National Curriculum, which consists of Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy and competence.  We use Purple Mash to deliver our Computing curriculum.  Using Purple Mash ensures the Computing curriculum contains everything that is needed to deliver inspiring and engaging lessons which will enable the very best outcomes for our pupils. It exposes pupils to a wide variety of digital tools, technological skills, and innovations.

Our knowledge rich and quality Computing curriculum enables pupils to be equipped to use computational thinking and creativity to understand the world around them.  Computer Science is the heart of the curriculum where pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to use this knowledge through programming.  As this, at the core of the learning, pupils can then build on from this knowledge and understanding to equip them to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content.  The Computing Curriculum also aids pupils in becoming digitally literate in being able to use and express themselves and develop their ideas through information communication technology at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants and citizens in a digital world.

In the Primary Phase, we will provide the pupils the opportunity to:

- have access to a rich source of materials, no matter what their background

- present information in new and different ways which will help them understand, access and use the information more readily

-  learn about and use a range of Computing programs appropriately and effectively, and across the different curriculum subjects

- be challenged, motivated and develop a love for computing when engaging with the curriculum.
