Modern Foreign Languages

“You can never understand one language until you understand at least two.” ― Geoffrey Willans

"One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way." ― Frank Smith

Our Intent:

Our Modern Foreign Languages curriculum is designed to nurture confident linguists. Because we believe that learning a second language is cognitively beneficial, culturally enriching, and enjoyable, we offer a knowledge-rich curriculum that enables pupils to attain a level of mastery in their language of study in order to not only succeed in their GCSE exams, but also to develop a lifelong skill that may lead them to further qualifications or experiences.

We use the Kapow scheme of work as it was identified to ensure teaching provides support in key areas of the subject pronunciation, written and spoken French.  We want pupils to develop the confidence to communicate in French for practical purposes, using both written and spoken French. We aim to give pupils a foundation for language learning that encourages and enables them to apply their skills to learning further languages, developing a strong understanding of the English language, facilitating future study and opening opportunities to study and work in other countries in the future.  Through secondary specialist teaching to the Primary phase, following the Kapow scheme of work, we can provide out Primary children with expertise teaching which will provide them with an excellent base to build upon transition into their secondary phase.
