Glow in the dark- Cricket Festival
Warwickshire Cricket Club ran a county wide initiative aimed at increasing participation through a unique format of the game –GLOW IN THE DARK!
What is Glow in the Dark Cricket? – Basically cricket played in the dark with luminous equipment.
Warwickshire CC sent a coach to Washwood to work with a boys and girls group to prepare them for the festival.
Girls Glow in the Dark Festival – Monday 18th September
We had 8 girls from year 7 and 8 representing Washwood Heath Acedemy, they played against 3 other teams Hillcrest, Bordesley Green Girls A, Bordersley Green Girls B. The other teams had older pupils and had experience of playing the game before. Washwood started slowly but got better throughout the tournament. There was some good batting performances from Gabrielle,Sienna and Aisha. Ifrah kept wicket very well and played an important part in keeping the score down. For a first attempt at the game they did very well and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Well Done to Arisha Malik, Aisha Hussain, Sawera Chaudry, Ifrah Navees, Gabrielle James- Parkes, Husna Shazad, Sienna Soldiew and Nura Habane.
Boys Glow in The Dark
The Boys had 2 teams in the competition as did hosts Starbank. It was a round robin format wherein every team played against each other. Washwood A team came close in getting to the final but just fell short at the semi finals stage. Washwood B team did better and got to the final against the Starbank A team. The final was a tight affair but Starbank just edged us out by 9 runs !!!
A good day was had by all with some exceptional cricket being played.

Washwood B – Abdul Asrar, Rehan Ahmed, Muhammad Akbar, Mohammad Rehan, Hizar Aurfan, Aqib Khan, Abidullah Saffi,Hasher Aftab,Keyaan Ashiq, Mohammed Hussain & Moosa Mohammad
