Culture Day

On July 4th the secondary phase celebrated our annual Culture Day! Our pupils dressed to impress, and that they did!
Culture day provides an opportunity for pupils to celebrate their culture, this year we celebrated the culture of Birmingham and pupils learnt lots about our amazing city. The bells provided some wonderful cultural music, throughout the day we were joined by Riverside performing arts hosting stalls from Northern Ireland, The Netherlands, Bermuda, Jamaica and china in the culture fayre. The Art department hosted a fantastic art exhibition and pupils could also paint their own addition to the Birmingham skyline. Some of our photography students ran the 'photo booth' where pupils could get their photographs printed to remember the day.
We were also joined by a fantastic mosaic artist, where every pupil laid their tile on the mosaic representing all the wonderful students and staff in our school, a piece of work we will display in school.
The kitchens provided exciting cultural food such as Jerk chicken, Dhaal and rice, chinese noodles which everyone could sample as the day went on.
The music and drama department provided an outstanding concert, seen by all, including performances from some of our Romanian pupils, steel pans groups representing Trinidad and Tobago, our infamous Dhol groups and a thrilling presentation from some of our year 9 pupils about black culture and excellence.
Classroom sessions focused on celebrating the history and diversity of Birmingham, pupils learnt about what the city has to offer with a focus on Arts, Music and Sports.
A fantastic day.
