Year 9 Character Day- Staying Safe

On 4th June, all of our year 9 pupils took part in our 'Staying Safe' Character Day.
We were lucky to be joined by Precious Lives, who talked to pupils about their real life experiences and the dangers around gang culture, a powerful message that was felt by all. The police joined us, to talk to the pupils about 'Sadam's Story' and to discuss county lines, the dangers of knife crime and social media.
We were also joined by St John's Ambulance as part of their Young Responders programme, to deliver 'Street First Aid' to pupils. Pupils had real experience of giving chest compressions and really enjoyed the interactive session with Dom and Pam.
Pupils also took time in their classroom sessions to learn about the dangers of online messaging services, the terms and conditions of them and the ways to block and report as a form of online self defence.
Our 'Staying Safe' day forms part of our Character Education Programme, it was wonderful to hear pupils engaging in discussions about staying safe now and in their future and the powerful messages heard from our visiting providers.
