All Phases of the Academy celebrated VE Day on the 8th May 2025.

In the Primary Phase the children began their morning with a special assembly understanding the importance and impact of VE Day. This was then followed by a 2 minutes silence paying a tribute and respect to those who fought during the WW2 and helped make a difference. In the afternoon, the children participated in a range of activities on the playground and indoors, mirroring those that would have taken place on VE Day. It included: dancing, playing traditional games such as Mr.Wolf and Hopscotch, lots of artwork and crafts and most importantly... Lots of fun, laughter and gratitude.

In the Secondary Phase, pupils enjoyed a week of themed assemblies and cross-curricular lessons to commemorate this significant moment in British history. Pupils explored the importance of Victory in Europe Day through subjects such as history and art, examining the impact of Winston Churchill’s leadership and the role of wartime music in uniting the nation. As part of the celebrations, pupils engaged in a variety of hands-on activities, including baking traditional carrot buns in hospitality, creating 'Dig for Victory' posters in art, sewing commemorative bunting in textiles, and studying wartime songs in music. Assemblies highlighted the key character themes of resilience, unity, and remembrance. Secondary pupils enjoyed the cupcake sale, enjoyed the VE day decorations across school and also the picnic blankets at lunch time- cake and socail time in the sun!

As a Rights Respecting School, this event reinforces the importance of peace, safety, and the rights of children, while also promoting British Values such as mutual respect, democracy, and individual liberty. This is a powerful opportunity for pupils to reflect on the past and connect it with the values we strive to uphold today.
