The Music Department at Washwood are delighted to announce that 4 of our Piano students from year 9, 10 and 11 will be taking part in their ABRSM Graded Exam on Tuesday 19th December. (ABRSM- Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music)

All four of the boys have worked extremely hard with Louise Potter, our amazing Peripatetic teacher, and have been demonstrating all the amazing qualities needed to be successful musicians.

Washwood Heath Academy is proud of the strong partnership we have with Services for Education, providing over 150 pupils with a musical instrument lesson in a wide range of instruments such as; Piano, Guitar, Drum Kit, Dhol, Steel Pans, Vocals and Brass.

Musical Instrument lessons benefit pupils in many ways, learning an instrument stimulates the brain, improving functions like memory and abstract reasoning skills, which are essential for maths and science. Playing music with others builds skills in leadership and team-building as well as showing pupils the rewards of working with others.

Playing an instrument relieves stress, gives pupils a sense of achievement, builds confidence and improves patience. Music helps to improve memory, increases discipline and time management skills and makes pupils more creative.

"Music has the power of forming the character and should therefore be introduced into the education of the young" Aristotle
