Washwood is a School of Sanctuary!

Today we have had some visitors in school and received the School of Sanctuary Award for supporting students who are refugees and migrants !
Washwood Heath Academy will be presented with the award during Tolkien assembly on 9th October.  We will also  be adding a  School of Sanctuary logo to school website.
Visitors  were very impressed with the school ethos,  our portfolio  of evidence for the award ( thank you to staff who  have contributed recently – GDA, TSA, SPA, BPA, JCH ), met with a number of staff and pupils and were  amazed by  the fact that Ihsanullah Ahmadzai , a refugee student , for whom we are the first ever school, is the head boy  .
What does it mean to be a School of Sanctuary ?
A School of Sanctuary is a school that is committed to being a safe and welcoming place for all, especially those seeking sanctuary. This could be people whose lives were in danger in their own country, who have troubles at home or are just looking for a space of safety.

A School of Sanctuary is a school that helps its students, staff and wider community understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary and to extend a welcome to everyone as equal, valued members of the school community. It is a school that is proud to be a place of safety and inclusion for all.

Thank you for your continuous support with the EAL students !
